Capistrano Valley Students Offer Theories on Evolution-Creation Flap

Mr. Peloza is not only violating his teaching contract but also violating the law of the land. Peloza claims to be teaching the truth. Fine, teach the truth, which in Peloza’s case is based on faith. Yes, Mr. Peloza, faith, not scientific evidence. The teaching of creationism has no place in a science classroom.

Peloza also claims the debate is between “two diametrically opposed religious philosophies that present explanations for how and why life exists of this planet.” Religious philosophies? Since when was science religion? Mr. Peloza wants us to recognize the fact that creationism and evolutionism are religious concepts. How can we possibly compare the two?

I’m embarrassed that a supposedly qualified teacher at my school would be able to make such a bluntly false statement. I find his thinking to be extremely shallow.

If he is going to teach all sides, why not the Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu views of how the world was born--but not in his science class.

It is unfortunate to see someone so tightly wrapped up in his beliefs that it hinders the appropriate form of education for our future generations.
