Mola Proposal’s Effect on Seal Beach
There are several apparent contradictions between Seal Beach Mayor Edna Wilson’s statement and that of Councilwoman Gwen Forsythe (“Orange County Voices: The Mola Development Issue,” May 28).
Initially the Mola deal would bring money to Seal Beach. In the long run, however, the deal would bankrupt Seal Beach. In city after city, it has been shown that residential development increases city expenses far more than city income.
I have several other problems with Mayor Wilson’s statement. I don’t see how 350 new homes in a gated community will contribute to Seal Beach’s small-town atmosphere or decrease traffic.
Furthermore, Measure A-91 does not commit Mola to build any parks, a commitment that Mola has refused to put in writing in the past. Lastly, Mola’s campaign on this issue has been devious. I’ve received a barrage of pleas from pro-A-91 forces that ignore Mola’s involvement in this issue and try to portray A-91 as an anti-development proposition, juxtaposed to the “evil” pro-development B-91.
Since when has a developer been anti-development or concerned with providing open space?
