Proposed Tax Seen as Just First Move

Share

Some Garden Grove officials are working to change the image of the city. If the citizens permit it, they will take the L out of play in calling Garden Grove a city in which to live, work and play (“Tax, Fee Increases Win Initial City OK,” May 9).

At 7 p.m. June 18, there will be a public hearing at the Community Meeting Center for the City Council to consider tripling business license taxes. Council members will also consider a tax increase of $400,000 for property owners. They plan to increase hotel and motel bed taxes by 25%.

Do they want to induce visitors to stay out of Garden Grove? If there isn’t enough opposition to these tax increases from the citizens, there are plans for more tax raises.

If we put up with these tax increases, wait until next year. Before November’s election, three council members called themselves tax fighters. On the 18th, we will find out how many of them are liars.
