Police on Sunday said they have been unable to locate the parents of a week-old boy found abandoned in the cab of a pickup truck in San Fernando.

The infant was found Saturday night in a truck parked in the driveway of a home in the 500 block of North Workman Street, San Fernando Police Sgt. Michael Harvey said.

Residents discovered the baby after hearing a noise coming from the truck about 9:10 p.m., Harvey said.

The infant--who was left along with two baby bags containing diapers, formula, bottles and clothes--was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills and declared to be in good health, hospital spokeswoman Maggie Cessar said.

There were signs that the baby had received hospital treatment--possibly intravenous feeding--but Cessar noted that the boy’s size and weight did not point to premature birth.

Officials of the county Department of Children’s Services took custody of the infant Sunday.

Cessar described the boy as Caucasian, with brown hair and dark eyes with a bluish tint. The baby weighs 7 pounds, 11 ounces and appears to be between five and seven days old, Cessar said.

One of the bags found with the baby was made of blue and white gingham, with a teddy-bear design. A small rubber teddy bear was inside, Cessar said. A plastic bag with a jack-in-the-box design was also found.

“It was like they packed him up with toys and clothes and sent him on his way,” Cessar said.
