SIMI VALLEY : Fire Causes $77,000 Damage to Store
An arson at a Vons grocery store in Simi Valley destroyed about $75,000 in hair spray, cosmetics and other sundries, authorities and store officials said Tuesday.
The fire at the store at 660 Los Angeles Ave. also caused $2,000 damage to the structure, Ventura County Fire Dispatcher Cece Grives said.
The fire started in a back storeroom at 8:24 p.m. Monday, Grives said. It was confined to a 20- by 50-foot storage area with the help of a sprinkler system and 37 firefighters, authorities said. But some aerosol cans exploded and other goods were destroyed. Customers and employees were evacuated.
Authorities said they had no further information on the arson.
