.Resort Chains Offer More Senior Rates

There’s good news for mature travelers as an increasing number of hotels and resorts offer competitive discounts. The following is a sampling of what some properties are offering to attract senior guests:

--Hyatt Hotels and Resorts has announced a discount program of 25% off regular room rates for guests over the age of 62 at its 91 hotels and 17 resorts in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Their toll-free information and reservations number is (800) 233-1234.

--Ramada International Hotels and Resorts has initiated a “Best Years” program that provides a 25% discount at many of its properties in 36 countries around the world. Those over age 60 are eligible for the discount as are members of several nationwide senior organizations, including the American Assn. of Retired Persons. --The Wainwright Inn Bed and Breakfast at Big Bear Lake has reduced the rates at its four rooms by 10% year-round. The standard rates range from $85 to $145 per night, double. --A 50% discount for members of AARP is offered by the new Omni Hotel in San Diego, which is in the heart of the city’s downtown area adjacent to the colorful Horton Plaza Shopping Center. --Tucson’s Westin La Paloma resort hotel has extended its Seniors Golf Getaway package for golfers over age 55. The $210-per-night package price is reduced to $165 double, with 18 holes of golf for each night booked, cart, forecaddie, club and shoe storage and cleaning, plus a 15% discount on food, beverage and merchandise in the golf and tennis shops.
