California IN BRIEF : HOLTVILLE : Bull Rider Killed in Training Exercise

A bull rider training for a rodeo was killed when he was gored by the animal he was riding, a coroner’s spokesman said. Salvador Nolasco Avalos, 33, of Holtville, died at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, Chief Deputy Coroner David Prince said. Avalos, an experienced bull rider, was training for a rodeo event when he was thrown by the bull, Prince said. “(The bull) bucked a few times and as he was going over (the head) the bull reared back and the horn hit him in the chest,” he said.
