Border Patrol Led on Long Car Chase
Border Patrol officers were led on a car chase Tuesday night that lasted more than four hours, whipped through four counties and at one point zipped past Disneyland.
The chase began in Riverside County and wound through Orange County and almost to downtown Los Angeles. The fleeing driver then turned south, heading back to San Diego County with authorities in pursuit. At one point, the car and its pursuers left the freeway and sped through Anaheim.
“The initial report is that immigrants are involved,” an Anaheim police officer said. “We also hear the car they’re in is stolen.”
Shortly before 10 p.m., the chase ended in San Diego County when the fleeing driver apparently ran out of gas. Border Patrol Supervisor Ted Swofford said the seven people in the car were taken into custody. All are believed to be illegal immigrants, he said.
