Pavin 3 Strokes Behind Leader in U.S. Open
Former UCLA player Corey Pavin shot a one-under-par 71 on Thursday in the opening round of the 91st U. S. Open at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Pavin, who maintains a home in Camarillo, toured the front nine with a 35. He is three strokes behind leader Curt Byrum, who shot a 68.
Other local players included Brad Sherfy and Louie Garcia, both of Camarillo. Sherfy shot a six-over-par 78 and Garcia finished with a 10-over 82.
