Kicking Up Some Dirt Over the Dry Infields

I have been involved with Little League baseball and youth baseball for 10 years. I have attended baseball games at all levels; at each level I see something that concerns me.

After dragging the baseball diamond, the infield dirt is watered down to keep it from blowing around into the players’ and fans’ eyes. I can see the use of this; however, after the third or fourth inning the water is absorbed and the dirt is dry.

With the water shortage in Southern California I think that all baseball leagues in Southern California should stop watering the dirt, and water the grass just enough to keep it alive.
