Fire Burns 1,650 Acres

DULZURA, Calif. —
A spark from a cutting torch set off the Southland’s first major brush fire of the season, searing 1,650 acres east of Dulzura in southern San Diego County, the California Department of Forestry said Tuesday.
The blaze, which began Monday near California 94, apparently was sparked by a worker cutting metal railroad rails with a torch. It took 500 firefighters less than 24 hours to get the fire 50% under control. Full containment was expected by today, spokesman Bob Paul said.
