The charred remains of a man were discovered in an abandoned Northridge house that was gutted by fire Friday, authorities said.
The victim, whose age was estimated at 33, was caught in the fire that started sometime before 5 a.m. in a vacant house in the 16840 block of Parthenia Street near Forbes Avenue, city Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
No identification was found on the body, said Dean Gilmour, spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Firefighters found the single-story structure covered in thick smoke, Wells said.
Twelve firefighters extinguished the flames within 30 minutes, but the structure was gutted, Wells said.
Firefighters mopping up afterward found the body near the front entrance of the house, which had been scheduled for demolition, Wells said.
