Boy in Blue Shot, Killed; Gang Members Blamed
A 14-year-old boy wearing blue clothing was shot and killed in Hyde Park, apparently by gang members who mistook him for a rival, police said Saturday.
The youth and a companion were sitting in a car when they were attacked near Wilton Place and Slauson Avenue Friday afternoon. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend escaped serious injury.
Detective Richard Marx blamed the shooting on gang rivalries, although neither victim was a gang member.
Marx said the suspects mistook the victims for rivals because of their clothes.
