Police arrested a 31-year-old man on Monday in connection with an incident in which a man broke into a house in the Seacliff Country Club area and stabbed a woman in the leg.

The 38-year-old woman, who was not identified, had been asleep in bed with her husband in their Scenic Bay Drive home when she awakened about 6:35 a.m. Monday and saw a man crawling on the bedroom floor, police said. The woman was stabbed when she jumped out of bed and confronted the man, police said. The man had apparently been trying to burglarize the house when he inadvertently awakened the woman and her husband, police said.

The woman was treated for her injury at Pacifica Community Hospital, Police Lt. Ed McErlain said.

McErlain said Brett Marshal Hornick was arrested about two hours later, after police had tracked him through Huntington Beach and into Seal Beach. Hornick, whom police described as a transient, was being held in Huntington Beach Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, car theft and possession of stolen property.

Police are investigating whether Hornick may be a suspect in two other break-ins in the Seacliff area early Monday morning.
