Two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Friday after a 7-Eleven clerk was shot in the head in a dispute over a six-pack of beer, police said.

Paramedics rushed clerk Dale Balbir, 35, to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for a minor gunshot wound and released.

Police said the incident began at the market on North East Street when customer Vicente Cruz Renteria, 29, began arguing with Balbir over the price of beer, then produced a pistol and shot Balbir in the head.

Other market workers grabbed Renteria and called police, but according to police spokesmen, before officers could arrive, another man, Francisco R. Martinez, 20, entered the market, brandished a gun and enabled Renteria to flee.

Not long after, police received a report of a man with a gun at an apartment complex on East La Palma Avenue and arrested Renteria and Martinez.
