MOORPARK : Trailer Fire Caused by Propane Leak
A leak in a propane gas tank caused a fire that gutted a 30-foot trailer west of Moorpark, Fire Department officials said Wednesday.
The trailer was parked at 8430 Waters Road and was not occupied when the fire started about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, fire investigator Dave Chovanec said.
The owners of the trailer live out of state and had left it on a relative’s property last weekend, Chovanec said.
The propane tank, which fueled the trailer’s heating system, “more than likely developed a leak and probably ignited from a pilot light,” Chovanec said. The pilot light on the furnace or the stove could have started the blaze.
The trailer’s “bottom floor is left standing, but that’s it,” Chovanec said.
