A Los Angeles woman and a teen-age gang member have been arrested in connection with the slaying of a Burbank store clerk who was shot in front of his apartment last August in what is believed to be a murder-for-hire scheme, authorities said Saturday.

Maria Serrato, 22, who was arrested Wednesday, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Burbank Municipal Court on murder charges in the Aug. 20, 1990, shooting death of Jose Salazar, 37, Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Kight said.

Also arrested Saturday in connection with the shooting was a 16-year-old gang member, Kight said.

Kight said the slaying was a murder-for-hire plot, but would not release further details.

Salazar, who worked at a market in Echo Park, was shot in front of his residence in the 700 block of East Cedar Avenue shortly after he and his wife, Cecilia, stopped their car in front of the apartment complex on their way home, investigators said.
