Escondido
An Escondido man was killed Thursday when his vehicle collided head-on with two cars on Del Dios Highway in Escondido, authorities said.
Teodoro Lapena, 80, died at the scene at 11:38 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Allen Wilkerson said.
Lapena was driving west on Del Dios Highway, near Toyon Canyon Road, when he crossed into the eastbound lane, Wilkerson said. He ran into a car driven by Deanna Baker, causing it to flip over the embankment. Lapena’s car continued forward and struck a car driven by Edith Ross, Wilkerson said.
Baker, 44, of Oceanside, was in serious condition Thursday night at Palomar Medical Center with a broken left leg and broken ribs, a hospital spokeswoman said. Ross, 73, was in good condition with a knee injury.
