Nothing Lightweight About Harvard’s Win
I would like to correct an apparent oversight in the July 7 Newswire. It was stated there that the University of Pennsylvania eight “hopes to become the first American crew since 1955 to win the Thames Cup.”
I was privileged to be the coach of the Harvard lightweight crew when it won the Thames Cup in 1966. The Harvard lightweights, the only American crew to win at Henley that year, bested opponents that sometimes outweighed them by 20 to 30 pounds a man.
