PBS Leads Pack for Emmy News Nominations

PBS topped all other networks with 40 nominations for the 1990 news and documentary Emmy Awards.

ABC was second with 30, while CBS had 20, TBS eight, NBC seven, Fox and Discovery three each and HBO two. The syndicated “Inside Edition” got one.

The awards will be presented Sept. 11 in New York.

Among individuals, Connie Chung received five nominations, while four each went to Ted Koppel, Peter Jennings and Bill Moyers. CBS’ Chung was cited for reports on breast implants, ovarian cancer, the Hilary Foretich custody dispute and interviews with Exxon Valdez captain Joseph Hazelwood and actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

Emmy nominations for prime-time entertainment programming will be announced Thursday.
