Chula Vista
A permanent facility for the South Bay Public Health Center opened Thursday in Chula Vista, two years after fire destroyed the former building.
The facility at 263 Fig Ave. was destroyed July 13, 1989, said Bob Haebel, an assistant deputy director for the county’s Public Health Department. After the fire, the center was moved to temporary quarters at 311 F St. and later to 1680 Broadway.
The new site, at 500 3rd Ave., has about three times more space and more parking than the old facility, Haebel said.
He said about 24,000 people a year use the center, which offers immunizations, child examinations, tuberculin skin testing, tuberculosis treatment and AIDS testing.
