Sockers Promote Latta, Others

The Sockers made sweeping promotions in their front office staff on Friday and named Tim Latta the new director of marketing. Latta, who has been with the club since 1984 and is the staff’s senior member, was the director of bradcasting/media services the past three years.

Latta will be in charge of all phases of the club’s marketing program, including the team’s media and marketing support staffs.

Other announcements were the naming of Lora Clark as director of operations; Lynn Castner as director of ticket sales; Jim Moorhouse as media services coordinator; Robin Roylance as marketing coordinator; William Taylor as operations coordinator; and Jon DeMarco as youth marketing coordinator.

The team previously announced Randy Bernstein as the executive vice president/general manager on July 1, when Oscar Ancira, Jr. was introduced as the Sockers new managing general partner.

GOLF

Mark Strickland of El Cajon advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the 7,025-yard, par-72 Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. Strickland beat Dallas’ Dean Overturf, 4 and 2, in the second round, and Alan Bratton of College Station, Tex. in 19 holes in the third.

Carlsbad’s Tom Kroll defeated Danny Green of Jackson, Tenn., 3 and 1, in the second round but lost to Trev Anderson of Tempe, Ariz., 6 and 5, in the third.
