* Hit Show: There’s no recession for fight fans, judging by sales of $200 tickets to the Nov. 8 heavyweight title fight between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. All the high-price, ground floor seats in Caesar’s Palace outdoor arena were sold by telephone Monday morning. By the end of that first day of sales, the $40 tickets were also gone.

* Off Duty: Daryl F. Gates, meet Mike Gerrety--another police chief under fire. In fact, Gerrety’s already been ousted and is sitting in a North Dakota jail after taking part in an anti-abortion protest in Fargo, N.D. But that’s not what Gerrety was fired for, say his bosses, the Redwood Falls, N.D., City Council. Instead, they bumped him when he refused to post bond and return to work this week--saying he prefers to stand trial and go to jail, if he must. “I love my job dearly, but it’s the sacrifice I have to make,” said the ex-chief.

* Hall to the Chief: Gen. Colin Powell and four former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff gathered Wednesday in the Pentagon to dedicate a hall refurbished in their honor--at a cost to the taxpayers of $519,000. The new passage features the Chiefs’ photos, displayed amid columns with recessed lighting.

* Home Show: A Tampa, Fla. couple was arrested for having sex at home. Alfred Stephens, 36, and Janet Lee Paddock, 32, did not pull the shades and were watched by two children, ages 2 and 8, from an apartment window 10 feet away. The children’s father discovered the show and shouted for them to stop or pull the blinds. Another neighbor videotaped them. Paddock and Stephens were jailed and charged with lewd and lascivious acts in front of a child under 12. They were freed Thursday on bail.
