Valenzuela and Ultrasonido Team for Greinton Victory
Ultrasonido, given a front-running ride by Pat Valenzuela, won the $61,000 Greinton Handicap Friday night at Hollywood Park by three-quarters of a length.
The six-year old Argentine bred, trained by Ron McAnally, ran the mile on the turf in 1:34 3/5 in defeating four rivals. The Clover Racing Stable entry of Eradicate and Kanatiyr finished second and third, with Exclusive Partner fourth and Stalwart Charger fifth.
Ultrasonido went to the front at the start and set fractions of :23 3/5, :47 1/5 and 1:11. Stalwart Charger, making his first appearance since running sixth in the Super Derby last September, stalked Ultrasonido but faded as the field turned into the stretch. With the four betting interests, there was no show wagering. Ultrasonido paid $8 and $3, and the Eradicate-Kanatiyr entry paid $2.20 to place.
