Baldwin Park : Graffiti Reward Offered

Share

The City Council unanimously approved a reward system Wednesday for Baldwin Park residents who turn in and help convict people who scrawl graffiti.

Police Chief Carmine Lanza said anyone who tips police to graffiti artists and is willing to testify in court against them will be eligible for rewards of $100 to $500, depending on the seriousness of the crime and the number of people convicted.

The initial pool of $5,000 in reward money will come from police asset forfeiture funds. After that, the council urged citizens and businesses to raise donations to contribute to the fund.

Lanza said the Police Department gets many complaints about graffiti after it is in place but few tips on people in the act of writing graffiti.
