Suspected Drunk Driver Hits Car; Baby Dies
A 3-month-old boy died Saturday after the car he was riding in was struck by a suspected drunk driver in South-Central Los Angeles, police said.
The infant, whom police did not identify, suffered massive head injuries when he struck the windshield of the car about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Andre Crabtree, 30, of South-Central Los Angeles, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and admitted to the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center, said Sgt. Leslie Wilbanks.
The boy and his mother, whom police did not identify, were in a car driven by Maria Bautista, 22, of South-Central Los Angeles. The mother and Bautista were admitted to County-USC Medical Center for bruises to the head, Wilbanks said.
Police said Crabtree was eastbound on Slauson Avenue in a stolen vehicle when the accident occurred. Wilbanks said Crabtree struck Bautista’s car, which was headed west on Slauson, as he attempted to turn left on Main Street.
