Discounts on Hotels, Attractions in Phoenix

The Phoenix & Valley of the Sun Convention & Visitors Bureau is offering coupon booklets with discounts at hotels, restaurants, museums, desert jeep rides and Grand Canyon rail and air tours.

There are 63 coupons in the booklets, most good through the end of this year, with discounts of as much as 50% off regular rates. The booklets are available at 24 Smitty’s Supermarkets throughout the metropolitan Phoenix area. No purchase is necessary. You can also pick up a copy at the visitors bureau office at 505 N. 2nd St., Suite 300, Phoenix, Ariz. 85004. Booklets cannot be obtained by mail.

Among the sightseeing attractions are the Heard Museum in Phoenix and the Phoenix Greyhound Park for dog races, plus Frank Lloyd Wright’s School of Architecture at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, and the Sunsplash water/recreation theme park in Mesa.

There are 32 hotels participating in the program. Most already have summer discounts in effect, knocking 40% to 60% off regular rates. However, some properties are offering extra discounts. The Embassy Suites in Tempe, for example, is offering an extra $10 off its existing discount, plus complimentary breakfast and an airport shuttle.

Sheraton Hotels has expanded its Endless Weekend program, reducing Sunday-through-Wednesday summer rates by up to 60% off regular prices at about 20 hotels in North America. The weekday program runs through Sept. 3, while the weekend program, Thursday through Saturday nights, lasts through Dec. 29.

Reservations must be made at least 14 days in advance for the weekday program. Advance payment, however, isn’t required.

With both programs, the amount of the discount varies from hotel to hotel. Breakfast for two adults is included each day. Two children, 17 or younger, can stay free using existing bedding when accompanied by a parent.
