Fernando Valenzuela won his first game with triple-A Edmonton, striking out seven in a 5-3 victory over Tacoma in Pacific Coast League play Monday night.
Valenzuela went 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits--including a pair of home runs--as he continued his second rehabilitation stint in the minors this year. The former Cy Young winner faced 24 batters and threw 93 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Valenzuela has a minor-league contract through Aug. 19. On that date, he can be called up to the Angels or he becomes a free agent.
