PRO FOOTBALL : DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Offensive Line Depleted for Exhibition

Share

There will be little rest for the weary offensive line during the Rams’ exhibition game against the Atlanta Falcons Saturday at Jacksonville, Fla. Guard Bern Brostek, who was poked in the left eye during practice Tuesday, may not be available.

Center Doug Smith, who suited up for Wednesday afternoon’s workout but was unable to practice, is questionable because of an ankle injury. Guard Duval Love and center Jeff Pahukoa, both out with knee injuries, won’t be in uniform. Holdout veterans Tom Newberry, who is seeking a contract renegotiation, and Irv Pankey also will be absent.

Coach John Robinson, on why it’s difficult to give a state-of-the-team address: “There’s so much competition at so many positions, you get wrapped up in the battles, and you sometimes lose sight of whether any of us are any good. But that’s training camp. The eagerness, the competitiveness, the willingness to do whatever’s asked has pleased me greatly. There are a lot of positive signs, but how it translates into a finished product, I don’t know. I haven’t even thought about it.” . . . No. 1 draft choice Todd Lyght’s agent, Bob Woolf, said that he hasn’t spoken with the Rams recently and negotiations are “right where we started.” . . . Darryl Henley (hamstring injury) is “doubtful” for Saturday’s game, according to Robinson. . . . Stacey Bailey, a wide receiver who played nine seasons with the Falcons, will make his debut as a Ram against his former teammates.
