Former Ram Gaston Green ran for 84 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown, to lead the Denver Broncos to a 10-3 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the rain Friday night at Denver.

Green, acquired from the Rams in April and replacing holdout Bobby Humphrey for the Broncos (1-1), took a pitchout from John Elway and swept around the right side for his touchdown with 4:22 left in the first quarter. He cut back and faked out a defender on his way to the end zone.

Seventeen seconds later, Eric Dickerson fumbled the ball away at the Colt 28-yard line, and Green carried on four consecutive plays for 23 yards to set up David Treadwell’s 19-yard field goal that gave the Broncos a 10-0 lead.

The Colts (0-1) couldn’t score until Dean Biasucci kicked a 35-yard field goal with 42 seconds remaining.

Detroit 24, Cincinnati 20--Quarterback Andre Ware and rookie Cedric Jackson ran for touchdowns in the second quarter to lead the Lions past the Bengals at Pontiac, Mich.

The Lions have won six consecutive exhibition games.

Detroit’s last exhibition defeat came in the final game of 1989 season, 24-14, to the Rams.

Ware’s 11-yard keeper tied the score, 10-10, and Jackson’s 15-yard run put Detroit (2-0) ahead to stay with 2:52 remaining in the first half.

Ware, the 1989 Heisman Trophy winner, completed seven of 21 passes for 82 yards and fumbled once in place of Rodney Peete, who injured his groin in last week’s Hall of Fame game victory against Denver.

Jackson, an eighth-round draft choice out of Texas Christian, carried 16 times for 73 yards.

Starting quarterback Boomer Esiason played one quarter for the Bengals, connecting on six of 11 passes for 58 yards and a seven-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Brown as Cincinnati (0-1) took a 10-3 lead after one quarter.

Cincinnati’s All-Pro strong safety, David Fulcher, left the game in a wheelchair after sustaining a hip pointer on the last final of the first quarter.

Detroit’s first-round draft pick, wide receiver Herman Moore of Virginia, left with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter, but X-rays were negative.
