CAT COUNT: Whittier will conduct its first-ever cat registration clinic on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 1 of the Whittier Community Center at 7630 Washington Ave. Officials for the countywide program say the voluntary registration will help animal-control workers return lost cats. Low-cost vaccinations will also be available during the registration.

SIDEWALK ARTISTS: Children ages 2 to 12 are invited to “design to their little hearts’ content” in Covina’s annual sidewalk coloring contest. The free contest, in which all participants receive awards, will be held at Covina Park Recreation Hall, 340 Valencia Place, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

POLICE HISTORY: The Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research will present “The LAPD: History, Power and Accountability” at 6120 S. Vermont Ave. on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information call (213) 759-6063.
