It’s early, but starting quarterback Jay Schroeder and the first-team offense has produced just one field goal in almost four quarters of work through two exhibition games. Schroeder was four of 11 passing against Miami, making him eight for 21 in two weeks.

Former UCLA receiver Scott Miller, a ninth-round draft choice for the Dolphins, took a big step toward making the roster Saturday with three catches for 68 yards, including a 19-yard scoring reception. “I think he can make the team,” Miami quarterback Dan Marino said.

Injuries: Kicker returner Ron Brown suffered an ankle sprain early in the game and rookie tailback Nick Bell injured his right knee in the third quarter and needed help getting off the field.
