WEEKEND TV : ’60 Minutes’ Tribute to Reasoner

Share

Everything from outlandish cartoons to familiar teen-age brats to a beloved TV news icon step into the iridescent limelight this weekend.

“60 Minutes,” Sunday at 7 p.m. (2)(8), pays tribute to Harry Reasoner, the esteemed newsman who died at the age of 68 last Tuesday. Andy Rooney will narrate the 14-minute testimonial to the correspondent who co-founded the long-running news program with Mike Wallace 23 years ago. The piece will include clips of Reasoner’s stories as well as interviews with those who knew him well. The show will also rebroadcast reports on Saddam Hussein’s vast wealth and Bruce Cutler, John Gotti’s defense attorney.

Sunday also marks the premiere of three new and wild animated series on Nickelodeon. “Doug,” airing at 10 a.m., chronicles the escapades of a nerdy 11-year-old who has visions of both grandeur and humiliation. “Rugrats,” 10:30 a.m., tells the story of a mischievous gang of toddlers whose voices are supplied by David Doyle, Melanie Chartoff and Jack Riley. “The Ren & Stimpy Show” follows at 11 a.m. with the tale of a post-nuclear-looking dog and cat. The premiere episodes of each show will be broadcast one time only in prime time Sunday, beginning at 8 p.m.

“Parker Lewis Can’t Lose!” launches its second season Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Fox (11)(6). Corin Nemec stars as the precocious high school student who consistently outsmarts the obnoxious and vengeful characters that surround him. Melanie Chartoff pops up here, too, as Parker’s chief rival, while William Jayne and Troy Slaten portray his two best chums. A fresh summer episode of the Emmy-nominated “In Living Color” follows at 8 p.m.
