Charges may be brought today against a 41-year-old Anaheim man who allegedly struck a man with a machete before being shot by police, officials said Monday.

Police Sgt. Chet Barry said a case against Angel Luis Denza, who remains hospitalized in critical condition, has been presented to the district attorney’s office. He declined to say what charges might be filed against Denza.

Police said Denza went on a rampage Saturday night at the Vista Park Apartments, striking 37-year-old Randolph Eugene Woodman in the head, causing a 6-inch wound, and threatening other residents. Denza was shot three times in the chest by an unidentified police officer after he allegedly refused her order to drop his weapon and advanced on her, police said.

Woodman’s condition was upgraded Monday from critical to stable by doctors at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, a hospital spokeswoman said.
