Shane Sellers, the runaway leader in the jockey race, rode six winners at Arlington International Racecourse on Wednesday, including Plate Dancer in the $37,200 Mister Gus Stakes.

Plate Dancer, the favorite, got up in the final stride to defeat 13-1 outsider The Great Carl in a photo-finish of the one-mile race. Mr. Importance was a head farther back in third after replacing pace-setting Sunny Sunrise as the leader in the stretch run.

The winner paid $4.60, $3.80 and $2.60, earned $22,320 and was timed in 1:37 2/5.

Sellers also won the first race with Shakabuku, $5.80; the second with Lucknow Bubba, $9.20; the fourth Outboard Bound, $9.60; the fifth, Rising Moment, $8.40; and the ninth, Duckaroo, at $10.20.

Three of his winners were horses Pat Day had been scheduled to ride. Jerry LaSala and Francisco Torres also had winners with horses that were to be ridden by Day, who took the day off.

Sellers, who has 141 winners from 517 mounts, also had a second and a third Wednesday. Day, who didn’t arrive at the track until several weeks ago, has 49 winners from 155 mounts.

Sellers seems certain to surpass the Arlington record of 181 winners set by Randy Romero during the 1982 meeting.
