Seal Beach Man Stable After Shooting
A 20-year-old man was shot in the head early Thursday morning as he sat in a car talking to a group of people at a street intersection, police said.
Derick Zirkle of Seal Beach was in stable condition Thursday night at Long Beach Community Hospital after the 1:35 a.m. shooting, Seal Beach police dispatcher Bonnie Tyler said.
Zirkle was a passenger in a car that stopped at a stop sign on Ocean Avenue and 1st Street, Tyler said. The driver of the car was not identified.
Zirkle was talking to a group of eight to 10 people when someone from the group shot him, Tyler said. It was not immediately known if the group was in a car or on foot at the time of the shooting.
The gunman is described as 16 to 20 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and 140 to 145 pounds. He was wearing a gray, long-sleeve sweat shirt, dark baggy pants and a baseball cap.
