Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga Is a Big Day for the ‘Irish’

Irish Linnet and Irish Actress, both owned by Austin Delany and trained by Leo O’Brien, won the divisions of the Yaddo Stakes for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up at Saratoga on Friday.

Irish Linnet, ridden by Mike Smith, won the first division by three lengths after racing on or near the lead throughout. Longshot Embractania finished second, three lengths ahead of Cazzy B.

The victory, accomplished in 1:49 2/5 for 1 1/8 miles over the main turf course, was the fourth for Irish Linnet in eight starts this year. The winner earned $57,600 and returned $5.60, $3.80 and $2.60.

Embractania paid $27.20, $8 and Cazzy B. was $2.60.

Irish Actress came from last in the eight-horse, $93,600 second division under a rail-hugging ride by Angel Cordero Jr. to win by a neck in 1:49 2/5.

Serene Nobility also closed strongly to get second, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Azadeh.

Irish Actress’s victory was her second in seven starts this year. She earned $56,160 and returned $7, $3.60 and $3. Serene Nobility paid $5 and $4, and Azadeh was $4.60.
