Quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver said he was told Tuesday night by a Charger official that he will be traded to the Atlanta Falcons today.

“That’s the direction they’re going in and there’s nothing I can do about it,” Tolliver said.

Charger General Manager Bobby Beathard confirmed that the Chargers and Falcons have agreed on the terms, but he said the deal has not been completed.

“Atlanta wanted to wait until after their practice (today),” Beathard said. “I just hope this doesn’t put the trade in jeopardy.”

Beathard said if the trade is set as agreed upon, the Chargers will receive “a set draft pick.”

Several players were added to the rosters after being released on Monday. For example, Billy Ard and Keith Uecker returned to the Packers, Cliff Stoudt to the Cowboys, Darrin Nelson and Leo Lewis to the Vikings, Skip McClendon and Leo Barker to the Bengals, Kevin Clark and Jim Szymanski to the Broncos, Paul Skansi and Darren Comeaux to the Seahawks and Gerald Riggs and Stephen Hobbs to the Redskins.

Although Sammie Smith of the Dolphins, Keith Millard of the Vikings and Ickey Woods of the Bengals, founder of the “Ickey Shuffle,” were the biggest names placed on injured reserve, the biggest player was Eric Swann, the 315-pound defensive lineman who became the first non-college player to be drafted in the first round since 1946.

Other players added to injured reserve included Bronco receiver Vance Johnson and guard Crawford Ker, Redskin backup quarterback Gary Conklin, Bear safety Shaun Gayle and wideout Ron Morris, Seahawk quarterback Kelly Stouffer and center Joe Tofflemire and Packer tackle Louis Cheek, running back Chuck Webb and wide receiver Erik Affholter, a former USC player.

Also placed on injured reserve was Jamie Mueller, the Bills’ starting fullback, who has a rare spinal problem that could threaten his career.

Cleveland defensive tackle Michael Dean Perry, Patriot running back John Stephens and Steeler linebacker David Little ended their holdouts.

The Patriots named second-year man Tommy Hodson the starting quarterback over former Ram Hugh Millen. But Coach Dick MacPherson stressed that it applies only for Sunday’s opener at Indianapolis . . . The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued reshaping their opening-day roster, signing defensive lineman Dexter Manley, who had been cut by Phoenix, and trading linebacker Ervin Randle to the Chiefs.
