Threat to Butterfly

In response to “Cattle Threat to Butterfly,” Part A, Aug. 14:

To fine-tune the grazing of cattle over thousands of acres in San Diego County to accommodate a rare species of butterfly is a continued example of environmentalists nit-picking the habitat to death. There are more than 17,000 species of butterflies--a result of some overly enthusiastic classifiers--and new ones are found, and likewise disappear, on an annual basis. To lend credence to their arguments by even considering its existence reflects poorly on governmental priorities.
