One man was electrocuted and two others injured during an industrial accident, authorities said.
About 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, the three men were attempting to guide a load of steel into a ditch in the 200 block of Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos by using a metal crane, said Sgt. Roy Stamper of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
An electrical spark was created during the operation and traveled along the middle wire of the crane, striking the trio, Stamper said. It was unknown whether the crane struck overhead wires or just came close enough to cause an arc, he said.
Eric Marvin Freedman, 31, of San Diego, was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Dan Matticks, a county medical examiner’s investigator.
Les Puttman, another worker, is suffering from electrical burns and is in good condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Greg Flachmeier, a third worker, suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released at Palomar Medical Center.
