BOXING
Tony “Bazooka” DeLuca, in his first match since being losing by a decision to Ysaias Zamudio in December, suffered a second consecutive upset as he lost by a split decision to little-known Edgar Decena of Guadalajara, Mexico, in a 10-round flyweight bout at the Lakeside Rodeo Arena.
Decena was ahead on two cards, 95-93 and 96-93, and a third judge had DeLuca ahead, 95-93.
DeLuca’s record is 17-6-3.
In the other main event, James Kinchen of San Diego knocked out Guillermo Chavez of Ensenada at 1:38 of the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round light-heavyweight fight.
It was Kinchen’s 35th knockout and he improved his record to 49-8-2.
In the undercard:
San Diego’s Paul Vaden, 22, improved to 5-0 as a professional by knocking out Armando Higuera at 1:59 of first round of a scheduled six-round middleweight bout.
Guadalajara’s Miguel Romero (5-3) won by unanimous decision over San Diego lightweight Doug Esteban in a 10-rounder. It was Esteban’s first loss as he fell to 5-1-1.
In another lightweight bout, Russell Moseley, who trains in the same Campo gym as Terry Norris, won by unanimous decision over Jesus Martinez.
