Monterey Park Names New City Manager

Share

The management services director of Monterey Park has been promoted to city manager.

Chris Jeffers, 31, succeeds former City Manager Mark Lewis, who was fired July 22 by City Council members who blamed him for dishonesty and low employee morale. Jeffers was named by the council after a closed meeting Tuesday.

Jeffers, who has worked for Monterey Park since 1985, holds a master’s degree in public administration. He has been serving as acting city manager since the ouster of Lewis. City officials have not set Jeffers’ salary. Before he was fired, Lewis earned $89,000 a year, plus benefits. The council will evaluate Jeffers’ performance in one year.
