TILT: Surfers aren’t thrilled about the new Huntington Beach pier (B2). Their complaint: the angled pilings. Some say these will make it more difficult, if not impossible, to “shoot the pier,” which means to ride a wave underneath the pier. But marine safety Capt. Bill Richardson says surfers should give it a chance. “Other piers have angled pilings. I think with the right wave they’ll still be shooting the pier.” . . . The new pilings are supposed to make the new pier more durable than the old one, badly damaged in a 1988 storm.
