PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Meyer Is Used to Firing Rumors
After Indianapolis started 0-2 for the seventh consecutive season, there were reports that Colt owner Robert Irsay would fire Coach Ron Meyer.
But Meyer, who recently signed a three-year contract extension, is not worried about losing his job.
“It seems like I have a certain image that I’m not going to be around for very long,” Meyer said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have those rumors dispelled season after season. There are questions that crop up every year that I’m the guy with his head on the block first. You start off 0-1 and 0-2, and it just compounds.”
The Colts signed linebacker Cedric Figaro, a Plan B acquisition who was waived in training camp.
Sunday’s game against the Raiders will mark the first appearance of Colt running back Eric Dickerson in the Coliseum.
Dickerson, who has rushed for 12,027 yards, needs 94 yards to move past Franco Harris into fourth place on the NFL all-time rushing list.
