VENTURA : Officer Honored for Saving Passengers

Share

Ventura police Officer Juan Reynoso was honored last week for quick thinking that saved two people from serious injury or death, officials said.

Last May 18, Reynoso saw a car stalled on the railroad tracks east of California Street.

The driver and a passenger had gotten out, but two others remained in the back. As a northbound Amtrak train bore down on the car, Reynoso told the two passengers in Spanish to run from the car.

They did. Moments later, the train demolished the vehicle.

On Thursday Reynoso was awarded the department’s certificate of excellence for his role in saving the occupants.

Two other certificates were presented Thursday. One went to Officer Greg Irvine for volunteering his time to upgrade the department’s photographic and radar equipment. Cadet Greg Hayes received the award for his leadership in training other cadets.
