VOLLEYBALL / COUNTY GIRLS’ CHAMPIONSHIPS : Top-Seeded Corona del Mar Faces Possible Showdown With La Habra

Defending champion La Habra will be among the 40 teams competing in three divisions this weekend at the Orange County high school girls’ volleyball championships.
Division I competition begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Edison High. Competition in all three divisions begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Division I finals scheduled for 6 p.m. at Edison.
Corona del Mar, the defending State Division I champion, is the top-seeded team, followed by Capistrano Valley.
La Habra, the defending State Division II champion, will play a qualifying match on Friday against Santa Margarita and could meet Corona del Mar in the first round. La Habra upset Corona del Mar in a five-game match in last year’s semifinals.
Pool play in divisions II and III will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Division II matches will be played at Marina High and Division III at Westminster.
Friday’s pairings:
Division I: (at Edison)--La Habra vs. Santa Margarita, 3 p.m.; Mater Dei vs. Newport Harbor, 3 p.m.; Fountain Valley vs. Laguna Beach, 5 p.m.; El Toro vs. Edison, 5 p.m.; Capistrano Valley vs. Mater Dei-Newport Harbor winner, 7 p.m., and Corona del Mar vs. La Habra-Santa Margarita winner, 7 p.m.
Saturday’s pool play:
Division II: Pool A--Cypress, Estancia, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Tustin; Pool B--El Modena, Esperanza, Marina, Valencia, Woodbridge; Pool C--Huntington Beach, Irvine, Los Alamitos, Sunny Hills, University.
Division III: Pool A--Costa Mesa, Foothill, Garden Grove, Ocean View, Santa Ana Valley; Pool B--Canyon, Pacifica, Trabuco Hills, Westminster, Whittier Christian; Pool C--Kennedy, La Quinta, Laguna Hills, Saddleback, Villa Park.
