A man was arrested Friday in the shooting of a 13-year-old girl, the innocent victim of a drug deal gone bad in a Paradise Hills neighborhood.

Michael Hansen, 24, was arrested at 3:10 a.m. at the Valli-Hi Motel in San Ysidro. Police found a gun in the trunk of the car they believe was used in the shooting, Lt. Dan Berglund said.

Diane Rosales, who was shot in the head Thursday, is in critical condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The girl was shot at 7:40 p.m. while talking on the phone in her apartment in the 5600 block of Albemarle Street. Her 5-year-old brother, who was with her at the time of the shooting, was not injured.

Police believe someone who lives in the victim’s apartment complex had double-crossed the assailants in a drug deal. The assailants then returned to the apartments and fired 10 rounds into the building.

Police are looking for two other people who were seen with Hansen at the apartment complex earlier Thursday.

Hansen, whose address is unknown, is being held in County Jail downtown.
