Studer Out, McCoy In for Long Beach

Cal State Long Beach quarterback Todd Studer has a broken jaw and is expected to sit out at least six games, including tonight’s 6 p.m. conference opener against defending Big West Conference champion San Jose State at Veterans Stadium.
Both teams are 0-2.
Studer, a senior who has passed for 308 yards and three touchdowns, was injured during the third quarter of last week’s 48-14 loss to Boise State. Freshman Mike McCoy is expected to replace Studer.
Long Beach running back Rickey Clark is expected to sit out at least three weeks because of a dislocated elbow. The 49ers, who lost their opener to San Diego State, 49-13, have totaled only 53 yards rushing, 49 by Clark.
San Jose quarterback Matt Veatch has completed 47 of 86 passes for 773 yards and three touchdowns, including a school-record 95-yard pass play to Byron Jackson in last week’s 26-20 loss to Minnesota. The Spartans lost their opener, 59-21, to fifth-ranked Florida.
