Oilers Again Release Receiver Wellman
Gary Wellman was waived by the Houston Oilers on Tuesday, four days after the NFL team had activated the former Westlake High and USC standout wide receiver.
Wellman, who had been on the team’s practice roster before he was activated, did not play in Houston’s 24-20 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. He was waived so the Oilers could have a roster spot available to activate defensive tackle Jeff Alm, who currently is on the injured reserve list.
This is the second time this season Wellman has been cut by Houston. He was one of the Oilers’ final cuts before the start of the regular season.
