BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Howell Throws Again, Feels Good
Jay Howell threw off a mound at three-fourths speed for 15 minutes Friday amid speculation he could available to pitch by the end of next week. It was the second time in three days he has pitched.
“It feels so good, it’s such a relief,” said Howell, who has not pitched in a game since Sept. 3 because of an irritated ligament in his right elbow. “But I want to be guarded about making any predictions until I throw a curveball.”
Alfredo Griffin, wearing a heavy knee brace, fielded ground balls Friday but could not move laterally without pain. He said he hopes to return by next week. . . . Some Dodgers are unhappy because the Houston Astros are scheduling rookie Jeff Juden, who spent the season at double-A, to pitch against the Atlanta Braves today and on the final day of the season.
